Overview
- Peptide (C)HELGKARTPAPGQ(S)R, corresponding to amino acid residues 167 - 181 of rat HTR6 (Accession P31388). Extracellular, 2nd loop.
5HT6 Receptor (HTR6) (extracellular) Blocking Peptide (#BLP-SR038)
- Western blot analysis of rat brain lysate (lanes 1 and 3) and mouse brain lysate (lanes 2 and 4):1-2. Anti-5HT6 Receptor (HTR6) (extracellular) Antibody (#ASR-038), (1:400).
3-4. Anti-5HT6 Receptor (HTR6) (extracellular) Antibody, preincubated with 5HT6 Receptor (HTR6) (extracellular) Blocking Peptide (BLP-SR038).
- Expression of 5HT6 in mouse hippocampus.Immunohistochemical staining of perfusion-fixed frozen mouse brain sections with Anti-5HT6 Receptor (HTR6) (extracellular) Antibody (#ASR-038), (1:300), followed by goat anti-rabbit-AlexaFluor-488. A. Staining in the hippocampal dentate gyrus region, showed 5HT6 immunoreactivity (green) in neuronal outlines in the hilus (H, left-pointing arrows) and in the granular layer (G, right pointing arrows). B. Pre-incubation of the antibody with 5HT6 Receptor (HTR6) (extracellular) Blocking Peptide (BLP-SR038), suppressed staining. Cell nuclei are stained with DAPI (blue). G = granule layer, H = hilus.
- Expression of 5HT6 in in rat dorsal raphe nucleus (DRN).Immunohistochemical staining of perfusion-fixed frozen rat brain sections with Anti-5HT6 Receptor (HTR6) (extracellular) Antibody (#ASR-038), (1:300), followed by goat anti-rabbit-AlexaFluor-488. A. 5HT6 immunoreactivity (green) appears in neuronal outlines (arrows). B. Pre-incubation of the antibody with 5HT6 Receptor (HTR6) (extracellular) Blocking Peptide (BLP-SR038), suppressed staining. Cell nuclei are stained with DAPI (blue).

5HT6 also known as 5-Hydroxytryptamine Receptor 6, Serotonin Receptor 6, or 5-HT-6, is a member of the serotonin (5-HT) family of receptors that comprises 14 members, classified into 7 distinct families (5HT1 to 5HT7). With the exception of 5HT3 that is a ligand-gated channel, all other family members are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) 1,2.
The 5HT6 receptor is almost exclusively present in the central nervous system and is distributed in various brain regions, including the striatum, nucleus accumbens, hippocampus, thalamus, cerebellum, dentate gyrus, olfactory tubercles, amygdala, and cerebral cortex.1,2,5
Based on the unique expression pattern of 5HT6 in the brain, research on the 5HT6 receptor has suggested its involvement in various neurological and psychiatric conditions, including mood disorders, schizophrenia, cognitive function and Alzheimer’s disease 1,2,5. Indeed several antagonists of 5HT6 receptor have been examined in the context of schizophrenia3, Alzheimer’s disease4 and cognitive impairment 5.

Anti-5HT6 Receptor (HTR6) (extracellular) Antibody (#ASR-038) is a highly specific antibody directed against an extracellular epitope of the rat protein. The antibody can be used in western blot and immunohistochemistry applications. It has been designed to recognize 5HT6 from mouse and rat samples. The antibody is not recommended for human samples.
