Our bioassay
- Alomone Labs human, rat Spexin-1 activates Galanin 2 receptor-mediated Ca2+ mobilization in CHO-K1-Gα16-mt Aequorin cells.Dose-response of normalized activation of the Galanin 2 receptor-mediated Ca2+ mobilization, evoked by human, rat Spexin-1 (#SPS-100). Ca2+ response was detected by measuring aequorin-derived fluorescence following application of human, rat Spexin-1 at different concentrations. The EC50 measured for human, rat Spexin-1 is 21.04 nM.
Scientific background
Spexin-1 is a potent 14 amino acid neuropeptide that acts as a Galanin 2 (GALR2) and Galanin 3 (GALR3) receptor agonist, and shows no activity towards Galanin receptor 1.
Expression of spexin-1 at the mRNA and protein levels are detected in the brain and in peripheral tissues of humans, mice and rats. Studies have shown that and administration of Spexin-1 leads to weight loss in rodents and suppresses appetite in goldfish1.
GalR2 and GalR3 receptors are implicated in several biological functions, in which the central nervous system functions controlling memory, seizure, pain, anxiety, depression, and mood disorder2.
Target Galanin 2, Galanin 3 receptors
