- Alomone Labs Pimaric Acid was tested in Xenopus oocytes expressing KCa1.1 channel using TEVC recordings.Left: Time course of KCa1.1 channel amplitude, by applying 50 µM Pimaric Acid (#P-270) and 200 nM Charybdotoxin (#STC-325), (ChTx). Currents were elicited by a 100 ms pulse to 0 mV from holding potential of -100 mV. Pulses were delivered every 10 seconds. The bars at the top indicate the period of the indicated drug application. Currents were normalized to the values of controls. The red, green and blue symbols mark the traces that are shown on the right. - Alomone Labs Pimaric Acid activates KCa1.1 channels heterologously expressed in Xenopus oocytes.Pimaric Acid (#P-270) activation of KCa1.1 channels is voltage dependent. The amount of activation by Pimaric Acid was assayed by normalizing each response to its control current amplitude. All responses were simultaneously gathered by using a stepwise voltage protocol.

Solubility and storage
Shipping and storage Shipped at room temperature. Product as supplied can be stored intact at room temperature for several weeks. For longer periods, it should be stored at -20°C.
Solubility Organic solvents such as DMSO, ethanol, acetone or methanol. DMSO is suggested for biological experiments. DMSO solution should not exceed 0.03%. Centrifuge all product preparations before use (10000 x g 5 min).

References
Scientific background PiMA was found to be a potent opener of KCa1.1 (large conductance Ca2+ activated K+ (BK)) channels. 1 µM PiMA doubled the current carried via BK channels and this effect increased dose dependently. PiMA increases the open probability of single BK channels by shifting both its voltage and Ca2+ dependence to more hyperpolarized voltages.1 BK channels that were activated by PiMA retain their charybdotoxin sensitivity.
